What is New Media?
Technologies that are part of new media include transformation of existing media such as photography, animation, television, film, newspaper. Also computer communications, such as e-mail, chat room, im, avatar-based communication forums, teleconferencing, voip, mobile telephony, blogs, wikis. Because of the evolution of new media, the Internet plays an important role. If it were not for having the Internet, computer based communications would not be able to evolve as fast as it has now. I think that new media is not replacing old media put enhancing it. Long time ago, in order to send a letter to someone, you had to wait days, months or even never(because the letter would get lost) till that person got it. Now with the new media coming out everyday, you can send your letter through e-mail and they get it in a minute. For instance in the reading about Who needs TV? I'm watching on a laptop by Laura M. Holson, many people do not watch their shows, new, sports, etc. on the television anymore. They watch it on the laptop which can be a connivance thing to do when you have missed something you really wanted to see. It does not mean that they don't have a t.v. or that they don't watch t.v. but that they are comfortable watching their shows on the laptop then the t.v. because it is more better for them. They can narrow down their selections., and watch the shows that they really want to watch.
