Old vs. New

One question that we can baffle a person about is to explain how we can distinguish "new media" from "old media"? I mean new media is just a transformation or a merge of old media. But then again, what we think of as old media was actually new media back then. So how can we distinguish new media from old media? The answer is simple WE CAN'T. New media will always be considered as old media and vise versa. What we think as new media now will be considered old media later years or maybe even tomorrow. For instance, one type of old media is books that transformed into eBooks, hypertext, wikis, even this blog as new media. Later on these types of new media will be considered as old media. Heck by then we would propably be reading in midair on flat paper wieght index card screens. Like in those future movies we like to watch so much.

  1. You are tackling a very interesting point. How do we define new technology in an era where everything changes so fast. Maybe the improvements of the future would carry another name than new media because they will have something in common that today's technologies don't have. For example they might be based on transplanted chips, and might be called chip media.
